This book in Slovenian language was a predecessor of the English Language book »Hemingway’s Trail: of the Novel A Farewell to Arms«. The two authors, Branko Drekonja and Aleksander J. Potocnik attempted to reconstruct the paths of the novel’s main hero Frederic Henry. The problem they faced was that in his novel A Farewell to Arms Hemingway omitted most of the place names. Despite that his descriptions were so consistent and precise that soon a rather accurate set of Henry’s itineraries emerged. Many readers probably remember the city of Gorica as the place where the story begins and surely everybody remembers Milano as the place where the love between the two main characters flourished. But until recently, apart from a couple of enthusiastic locals, no one ever had the faintest idea that the most dramatic event of the novel takes place in the city of Kanal.
